B. Gregorios III. Laham, the Feast of the 'Visitation of the Theotokos to St. Elisabeth', originally to be found in 1263 introduced by Bonaventure into the calendar of the Franciscan Friars on July 2nd, the eigth day, octave of the Birth of St. John the Baptizer, adopted in 1568 by the Roman General Calendar as well, has been transferred in the Melkite Catholic Calendar to the Vigil of the Birth of St. John the Baptizer, i.e. June 23rd, though - helas - not restoring the ancient Feast of the Life-Giving Spring to it's day of Friday of Bright Week. Personally I presume, Patriarch Mazloum very likely might have come into contact with that idea of liturgical celebration via Jerusalem and the Friars OFM of the Custodia Terrae Sanctae, in whose printing press the first Melkite Arab Archieratikon was printed in 1865.Fr. On this day, the Virgin Mary was traditionally commemorated as teh Source of Joy, the Well of Living Water, in reference dto the Song of Songs; "You are a garden fountain, a well of living water flowing fresh from Lebanon." On March 1, 1844, Melkite Patriarch Maximos III Mazloom ordered that the visit of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth be also remembered on this day."<br /><br />So it would appear that both are commemorated on this day.Melkitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00653802058573130387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687886961771238263.post-38643840542793746772011-04-30T20:43:54.059-04:002011-04-30T20:43:54.059-04:00Not offhand, no.... if anyone with knowledge of t...Not offhand, no.... if anyone with knowledge of that community could let us know, I'd be grateful....Samn!https://www.blogger.com/profile/14142811721903345946noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7687886961771238263.post-12748796125832620972011-04-30T15:57:25.846-04:002011-04-30T15:57:25.846-04:00Do we know if the Melkite Church still follows thi...Do we know if the Melkite Church still follows this directive?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
